Jack is an always-on conversation partner that leverages Generative AI to help students practice vocabulary, grammar, and conversation skills in Chinese and Korean.
Created by professors Chin-Hung Chang and Eun Hee Kim together with MADS, this custom-built conversational platform allows text-based chat (and soon voice dialog) that keeps student data private, thanks to an institutional agreement with Microsoft that allows use of Copilot technology (based on ChatGPT) within Northwestern’s protected environment.
Still in very active development, the team aims to improve the robustness and relevance of the chatbot’s feedback, and the ability for the chatbot to adopt different personas to better different scenarios.
